Explosives recovered in Diphu, one arrested
Diphu: Explosives, including gelatin sticks, were recovered from a house in Diphu town in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district and one person was arrested in connection with it, a senior police officer said. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the state police and the CRPF personnel launched a raid at a house in Dilaji area of Diphu town on Monday night and dug out the explosives from its compound, said district Deputy Superintendent of Police Nahid Karisma. One Lalchandchok F Tusingh was arrested in connection with it, the officer said. Some 27 gelatin sticks, six packs of other explosives and electric wires were recovered, the DSP said. The arrested person has claimed that he had procured the explosives from his friend in Meghalaya for selling them to people seeking to catch fishes by detonating the explosives, the officer said. Fake currency notes worth Rs 2 lakh seized in Kokrajhar
Kokrajhar: A man was arrested in Assam’s Kokrajhar district after fake currency notes of the face value of Rs 2 lakh was seized from his possession, a senior police officer said on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police Rajen Sing said police arrested the man with fake currency notes of the face value of Rs 2,17,900 on Monday night. The arrested person was identified as Saddam Hussain of village Parerchar Part-II under Abhayapuri Police station of Bongaigaon district, the SP said. In this connection police also carried out a search operation in different parts of Bongaigaon district and recovered one printer machine and one bundle of counterfeit notes of the denomination of Rs 100 from the house of one Abdul Awal of Simlabari Part-I village under Meresar Police Station of the district, A search operation has been launched to track out Abdul Awal who fled away, police said. A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Kokrajhar Police Station in this connection and investigation is on. (PTI)
Three-day session of Mizoram Assembly from Nov 19
Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi has summoned the three-day session of the state legislature from November 19, secretary of the state Assembly S R Zokhuma said on Tuesday. Zokhuma said that the session, beginning from November 19 would continue till November 21. The session is summoned to fulfil the constitutional requirement without any important government business at hand as of now, he added. (PTI)
NCST tells Nagaland govt to work for welfare of tribals
Kohima: The National Commission of Scheduled Tribes (NCST) on Tuesday asked the Nagaland government to work for the welfare of the tribal people in the state. A four- member NCST team led by its chairperson Nand Kumar Sai held deliberations with various state government agencies and also with Governor RN Ravi. The NCST team also visited two villages in Kohima district. Briefing media persons here, Sai said the NCST team had reviewed various activities and steps taken by the state government for the welfare of the tribal people of Nagaland. He said that though Nagaland is a tribal state, the commission has asked the state Home Department to study the applicability of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act so that the tribals in the state also have the protection as per the Act.
