NEW DELHI:  The Centre on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking extension of time for completing formalities facilitating transfer of State National Register of Citizens (NRC) Coordinator Prateek Hajela to Madhya Pradesh.

The Centre’s advocate told the bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi that though the government has taken steps to transfer the officer, procedural formalities will take some more time.

The court asked the government to file an application on this.

On October 18, the Supreme Court ordered inter-cadre transfer of Hajela to Madhya Pradesh on deputation for the maximum period permissible under the relevant rules.

The top court has directed the government to notify his transfer within seven days. However, it did not specify the reason for passing the order.
