Cultural evening in Tagore’s remembrance

SHILLONG: The Bangiyo Sahitya Parishad, Shillong organised a cultural evening at the Parishad Auditorium here on Sunday to commemorate the centenary of Rabindranath Tagore’s first visit to Shillong on October 11, 1919.
A floral tribute was given to honour Tagore which was followed by the lighting of the lamp by JB Bhattacharjee, president, and Uma Purkayastha, vice president, of the Bangiyo Sahitya Parishad and other members.The opening song was performed by Sneha Dey following which the vice president gave a speech on Tagores’s love and emotional attachment to Shillong. Paromita Paul of Shillong Music College sung a song by Tagore which was followed by songs from Tagore’s drama Rakta Korobi (Red Oleanders). It was written by Tagore during his second visit to Shillong in 1923.
Later, a dance drama titled Purbanchale Robi was also presented.
