Caution on bursting of firecrackers

SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate on Friday issued guidelines for bursting of firecrackers to check noise and air pollution during Diwali, a release issued here informed.
The order prohibits bursting of firecrackers between 10 pm and 6 am. It said violators will be punished according to law while adding that the guidelines are to be complied with by all concerned in and around the city. The government has urged the people to celebrate the festival of light by following the guidelines provided for safety and environment-friendly. Crackers with high noise level are strictly prohibited. Bursting of crackers in public places, silence zones and other sensitive areas like educational institutions, hospitals, courts, religious places, and government offices is also prohibited.
Strict action will be taken against those who fail to follow the guidelines, the statement said.
