NGO, ST team up to clean Laban

SHILLONG: Braving the rain, an NGO, Make Someone SMILE and The Shillong Times teamed up on Saturday for Operation Clean up at Laban.
Anky, founder of MakeSomeoneSMILE said his organisation had strategically planned the team division to different areas and at 8:30 am, the teams were divided and sent across Civil Hospital Junction to Dobighat (covering till Pine Mount) Dobighat to Batti Bazaar (covering Harisabha) Batti Bazaar to Laban Police Station (covering Sylheti Para), Police Station to 3rd stop (covering Assamese Namghar) and 3rd stop to Last stop(covering Bishnupur and Hatath Colony).
The teams came from St Edmund’s 1979 batch, Team Jiva, City Hut Dhaba, MSM, KL Bajoria College and Martin Luther Christian University. Members of the Laban Dorbar and Seng Longkmei were also present taking active part in the activity. While addressing the crowd, the Headman, appreciating the initiative and participation from all the members, invited everyone for the next session on December 18. Managing Director of The Shillong Times Manas Chaudhuri launched the Pla iew bag explaining that this should be made an integral part of the marketing system for consumers to avoid any more plastic usage. Around 80 bags were then distributed among participants and local residents of Laban.
