Jaintia muster roll workers set up consumer store
SHILLONG: The All Jaintia Muster Roll Workers and Labour Union has come up with new initiatives to set up its consumer store and thrift under the name of the  Muster Roll Workers and Labour Consumer and Thrift Co-operative Society during a recent programme. Extra Additional Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, D Syngai and General Secretary, Jaintia Journalists Association Rusel Nongrum attended the programme as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Nongrum stressed on the importance of responsibility and accountability when it comes to leaders and members of the society. Meanwhile, Syngai congratulated the union and wished them success. Around 500 out of 2,500 muster roll workers under the leadership of its president, Khroo Lam Sakhiat Pariat attended the inaugural programme.

Drawing, painting competition in WJH
JOWAI: The District Legal Services Authority, West Jaintia Hills, organised a drawing and painting competition  on October 26 at Sein Raij Higher Secondary School in Jowai. The competition was conducted in three category, Category-A, Category-B and Category-C. Around 100 students from eight schools took part in the competition which centered on the theme ‘global warming and climate change’. The felicitation programme was attended by E Kharumnuid, District and Sessions Judge who is also the chairperson of the District Legal Services District Legal Services Authority, West Jaintia Hills along with I Rymbui, Special Judge POCSO, West Jaintia Hills, K J Lyngdoh, Chief Judicial Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills, D Sohtun, Secretary, District Legal Services District Legal Services Authority, West Jaintia Hills, D Bareh, Principal, Sein Raij Higher Secondary School, Jowai including local artists Benedict Hynniewta and Raphael Warjri. The winners of the competition are Runremsiami Darnei from North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Jowai in Group-A, Sanikawani Challam from QC Springside Higher Secondary School, Jowai, in Group-B and Thiejlang Rabon from Sein Raij Higher Secondary School, Jowai, in Group-C.

Price of SK oil revised
JOWAI: The Deputy Commissioner of Supply, West Jaintia Hills, has informed that due to the revision in the price of SK oil (PDS) and with the implementation of GST, the price of SK oil has been revised and fixed with immediate effect. The wholesale price from Jowai and Thadlaskein Depot will be at Rs 37.10 per litre and Rs. 39.70 per litre from Shangpung outlet. The retail price from Jowai and Thadlaskein S K Oil Depot will be at Rs. 39.50 per litre and Rs 42.30 per litre from Shangpung SK Oil outlet.

Teachers’ workshop held
SHILLONG: The Khasi Department of Sankardev College, Shillong held a state level workshop on October 24 centering on the topic ‘Teaching and Evaluation’. Teachers from 30 colleges across the state took part in the workshop. The resource persons for the workshop were B War and A Kharmalki from the Department of Khasi, NEHU.

Unclaimed body
Shillong: The Joint Director of Health Services (SS), Civil Hospital, Shillong has informed that a female patient identified as Bharati Duara, 37, from Suren Duara, Punjabi Lane, Shillong was admitted in the Female Surgical Ward, Bed No. Extra I at Civil Hospital, Shillong on October 22 at 05:42pm. The patient expired on October 24 at 05:15pm. All concerned relatives, are requested to collect the body from the hospital morgue within 3 days failing which the body will disposed by the Shillong Municipal Board.
