SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) held a condolence meeting in memory of late UDP MDC from Langrin, Nassar Marwein who passed away on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by working president, Paul Lyngdoh who informed that 59-year-old Marwein died of cardiac arrest. He is four days shy of his 60th birthday on November 1.
“It is a loss to the party following the demise of late UDP president Donkupar Roy after three months”, he said and observed 2 minutes silence.
UDP MDC Titos Chyne recalled that Nassar is known to be a man of principles and discipline. “He was a man who honours the decision of the party”, he said. Of his political activity, he said that Marwein was also present during the campaign for Ranikor UDP candidate, Pius Marwein.
Half-holiday declared
The office of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has declared the October 31, the funeral date of Nassar, as half holiday as a mark of respect for the departed soul.
The CEM KHADC presided over the condolence meeting and observed 2 minutes silence.
Miners forum mourns
The Meghalaya State Co-ordination Committee of Coal Owners, Miners, Exporters, Transporters & Dealer’s Forum mourns the untimely death of one of the forum’s prominent member, who is also the President of the Meghalaya Mines Owners & Exporters Association and also sitting MDC of Langrin (Ranikor) constituency, late Nassar Marweiñ, who passed away on Monday. The forum offered condolences to the bereaved family. A condolence meeting was also held and two minutes silence was observed. The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee expressed profound grief and sorrow at the sad demise of UDP MDC Nassar Marwein from Langrin on Monday. The members prayed for the eternal repose of the departed soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the KHADC and Congress MDC Lamphrang Blah condoled Marwein’s demise.
In a letter addressed to the wife of Marwein, Blah said that an emergent condolence meeting was held on Monday wherein two minute silence was observed.
He said that the demise of Marwein is a loss not only to the family but the constituents of Langrin as a whole.
