Awareness on One Stop Centre in SWGH
AMPATI: An awareness-cum-IEC programme on the One Stop Centre (OSC) – a support centre for women – was held at the DRDA Hall in Ampati on Wednesday. Organised by the One Stop Centre, Ampati, the programme aimed at disseminating awareness on the recently established OSC which is a centrally sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Women and Child Development. These centres are being established across the country to provide integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence. The OSC will also facilitate emergency and non-emergency access to a range of services including medical, legal, psychological and counseling support to fight against any form of violence against women.   Addressing the gathering, Additional Deputy Commissioner SC Laloo urged all government officials to work together for the upliftment of the downtrodden and those in need of justice. Stating that incidence of crimes against women and children are growing at an alarming rate in the state, Laloo welcomed the establishment of the OSC in Ampati. “The OSC’s main objective is to help aggrieved victims and as such it should be the duty of everyone to help the downtrodden,” he said. In her address to the gathering, the centre manager of the OSC in Ampati Manechea Miami, M Sangma apprised the gathering of the services provided by the OSC. She informed that the OSC provided emergency response and rescue services, medical assistance, assistance to women in lodging FIR/NCR/DIR, psycho-social support and counseling, legal aid, counseling and shelter. Among others who attended the gathering were  District Social Welfare Officer Linda J Sangma, Para Legal lawyer Cara R Sangma, Police Facilitation Officer Jellitha Sangma, senior citizens and members of NGOs from in and around Ampati.

BBS College holds talk on Gandhian philosophy
SHILLONG: The department of Philosophy, BBS College, on Wednesday organised a talk on the topic ‘Relevance of the Moral Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi’. The resource person for the talk was Prof. Xavier P Mao, dept of Philosophy, NEHU. Commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the programme was attended by the president along with the secretary governing body of the institution, principal, vice principal, faculty members of the college, students and teachers from various institutions of the town.

School celebrates 150 years of ‘Mahatma’
SHILLONG: The Bureau of Outreach & Communication in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting organised a special outreach programme under the theme ‘Celebrating 150 years of Mahatma’ at Garobadha Higher Secondary School in South West Garo Hills. Resource person Arlach CH Momin delivered a speech on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and his ideologies which are still relevant to the contemporary world. “Gandhi’s good deeds left for the world to follow are non-violence, along with the eradication of discrimination on caste and gender. Gandhi never lived his life for himself. He cared for the downtrodden and was a simple man with great love for humanity,” said Momin. A video show including a cleanliness drive, rally and quiz competition were some of the activities that were part of the programme.
Discussion on RTI Act
DADENGGRE : The office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Dadenggre, organised a one-day awareness programme on Right to Information Act, 2005 for governement employees, NGO leaders, Nokmas, members of Self Help Groups among others at Dadenggre Circuit House on Tuesday. The resource person was District Public Relations Officer, East Garo Hills, WG Momin who deliberated on the introduction to RTI Act, 2005, roles and duties of the Public Information Officers and the Appellate Authority, procedures for disposal of RTI applications and timeline, roles of the State Information Commission besides others.
