SHILLONG: Syntung village in East Khasi Hills has emerged as another tourist destination following the Dorbar Shnong’s initiative to promote the place famous for Wah Rashi.
However, the two-hour ride to the village is not very smooth as some part of the road is unpaved although some stretches of it are in good condition including the one leading up to Syntung.
The picturesque Syntung is nestled in the lap of greenery as youth and elders from the village ensure that the place is kept clean.
The sordar of Syntung, Robert Pale, said that though the number of visitors is less, the Dorbar Shnong is able to earn around Rs 2 lakh annually from entry fees. The earnings go to the development of schools and the village.
Smiyon Shadap, who looks after the tourist spot, said the number of domestic tourists is more during the month of July and August, while locals usually prefer to visit during the winter.
Local MLA of Mawkynrew, Banteidor Lyngdoh on Thursday released a boat and some life jackets to woo tourists and for safety.
