President attends 5th Convocation of Sikkim University
Gangtok: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday attended the Convocation ceremony of Sikkim University at Manan Kendra. Kovind also awarded gold medals to 11 scholars of the 2019 batch, including six female and five male students. In his address, the Kovind appreciated the recent achievements of the university and efforts to preserve the endangered languages of the state. He also congratulated all the 1,556 students and researchers and praised Sikkim for its wonderful achievements in the fields of tourism, cleanliness, health, education, organic farming and united society. Chancellor Major General DB Shekatkar presided over the ceremony. Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Cabinet and Vice-Chancellor Avinash Khare were also present. Minister launches cleanliness campaign ahead of trade expo in Manipur
Imphal: Textiles, Commerce & Industry Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh on Sunday kicked off a cleanliness campaign by cleaning roads and office premises in the state capital ahead of Manitex Expo 2019. The minister flagged off the Manitex Social Service from Naoremthong DC Office Junction along the routes leading to the venue at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre in Lamboikhongnangkhong area of the city. Asserting that cleanliness was important for bringing development in the society, he said that politicians could not singlehandedly bring changes in the state. “Responsibilities should be shared by all in bringing development,” he said. 3 killed, 1 injured in road mishap
Aizawl: Three persons were killed and one injured when a min-truck fell into a gorge in Mizoram’s Mamit district, police said on Sunday. The min-truck fell into the gorge near Tuidam village from the national highway number 108 in Mamit district on Saturday, they said. The injured person was rushed to the nearby Kawrthah primary health centre. He was then shifted to a hospital in Guwahati. The three persons killed in the accident were all natives of Jharkhand and they were working in a road project in Mizoram, police added. (PTI)
