Four killed in wall collapse
Hyderabad: Four persons were killed and eight others injured when a wall collapsed at a marriage hall here on Sunday, police said. The incident occurred at Pearl Garden function hall at Golnaka in Amberpet area when guests at a wedding ceremony were having lunch. The injured were admitted to a hospital, where the condition of one of them is stated to be critical. Two auto-rickshaws and six two-wheelers were also damaged in the incident. Rescue teams of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) launched the operation to clear the debris. Locals said the function hall was re-opened on Sunday after renovation. Some people alleged that negligence by the management led to the tragedy. The GHMC announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. (IANS)
Man hangs himself before marriage
Hyderabad: Half-an-hour before tying the knot to make a new beginning in life, a software engineer committed suicide at a function hall on the outskirts of Hyderabad, police said. NS Sandeep hanged himself at the function hall in Kompally in Medchal district. The incident occurred even as guests from the families of both the bridegroom and the bride were waiting for the ceremony to begin. When the bridegroom, who was alone in a room for the make-up, did not come out, his relatives repeatedly knocked at the door. As there was no response, they broke open the door to find Sandeep hanging from ceiling fan. The incident shocked the guests and the celebrations turned into gloom. A resident of Dilsukhnagar area in the city of Hyderabad, Sandeep was to enter the wedlock at 11.35 a.m. The reasons for his extreme step were not known. A case was registered at Pet Basheerabad police station under Cyberabad police commissionerate limits. Police said they were investigating the reasons for Sandeep’s suicide. (IANS)
Andhra man murdered over Rs 2
Amaravati: In a shocking incident, a man was killed during an argument for two rupees in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district, police said. The incident occurred late Saturday in Valasapakala village under Kakinada rural block. According to police, Suvarnaraju (24), a construction worker, had gone to a cycle shop for inflating his cycle tyres. As he did not have two rupees to pay, there was an argument with shop owner Samba. The worker allegedly manhandled Samba for abusing him. Enraged over this, Samba’s friend Appa Rao, who was present nearby, picked up an iron rod and hit Suvarnaraju on his head. Locals rushed Suvarnaraju to Kakinada government general hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment. The police registered a murder case against Samba and Appa Rao. Police picked up Samba while the main accused is on the run. (IANS)
Wild elephant kills man, hurts woman
Coimbatore: A wild elephant killed a man and attacked a woman in a village near Pollachi in the district, police said. The farmer Rajendran was trampled to death at Arthanaripalayam on Saturday, the police said. The people in the village got panicky after the same elephant attacked a woman Thirthammal, a milk vendor, resulting in her getting injuries, they said. She has been hospitalised, they said. (PTI)
Terrorist killed in J&K
BANDIPORA: One terrorist has been killed in an ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district. “One terrorist neutralised in the ongoing operation in Bandipora. Operation in progress,” said Chinar Corps, Indian Army. A few weeks ago, three terrorists were neutralised by security forces in an encounter in Awantipora, including commander of Al Qaeda linked Ansar Ghazwat-ul Hind and Zakir Musa’s successor, Abdul Hameed Lelhari. On-duty cop dies of cardiac arrest
Nagpur: An assistant sub-inspector of Nagpur police deployed on security duty for the third T20 International to be played here died on Sunday after a cardiac arrest, an official said. India and Bangladesh will play the third T20I at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium located at Jamtha on the southern outskirts of Nagpur later in the day. ASI Madar Sheikh (50), working at police headquarters, was on bandobast duty when he suffered a cardiac arrest at around 12:15pm, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, Vivek Misal. ” A case of accidental death has been registered at Sonegaon police station, he added.
