SHILLONG: The elected Ward Commissioner of Shillong Cantonment Board, Vikash Gupta, who was arrested by the police on rape charges clicked selfies outside the lock-up in Sadar Police Station.
Photos of Gupta taking selfies, which was assumed to be inside the lock-up, started circulating but a police official clarified that it was outside.
“That is not the lock-up at all, that is outside the lock-up and there is a bench outside the lock-up in Sadar Police Station. When police pick up people, we don’t immediately put them inside the lock-up. We keep them outside and when all the paper work is done, then we send them for medical and only after that the person is put inside the lock-up,” the official said.
However, sources said that an arrested person is not allowed to use his mobile phone.
