Students’ body organises football tournament to unite Dorbars

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Laban circle organised the 2nd Wickliffe Syiem Inter-Dorbar Memorial Football Tournament with an aim to unite the 8 Dorbar Shnong of Laban Pyllun.
Informing this here, president KSU Laban circle, Manly Nongpluh, said on the concluding day of the tournament on Saturday that the union also wants to ensure that the youth’s attention is diverted from drug and other forms of addiction.
The football tournament started on October 21, on the 31st death anniversary of Wickliffe Syiem.
The chief guest on the occasion was Laban-Mawprem MDC Mitchel Wankhar and the guest of honour was publicity secretary of KSU central executive committee, Rapborlang Nongrum. The programme was also attended by traditional heads and women and youth organisations of the 8 Dorbars of Laban Pyllun. Wankhar said that people often complain about the lack of ambulance service and suggested handing it over to the KSU Laban circle after learning of the student group’s service to the Khasi community by setting up the Babu Jeebon Roy Computer Learning Centre at Last Stop to impart free computer training. Besides, it will also open an evening school for the underprivileged next year.
In his speech, Nongrum urged the youth to be disciplined and to be determined while aiming towards their goal and said that patience and hard work are key virtues. The winners of the 2nd Wickliffe Syiem Inter Dorbar Memorial Football Tournament were Dorbar Shnong Lawsohtun (female) and Dorbar Shnong Kynjat Phutbol (male).
