SHILLONG: Home Minister James Sangma is confident of police apprehending absconding Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) leader from Ri-Bhoi, Ferdinald Kharkamni.
Stating that a look-out notice has been issued for him, the minister told reporters that the police are investigating and trying to trace him. “We are hopeful that very soon he will be in custody”, he said.
It may be mentioned that Kharkamni is accused of assaulting the officer-in-charge, L Syngkon, and head constable, B Bordoloi, of Umiam PS on October 15. Both the police personnel were on duty when the assault took place.
The case against him has been registered under several sections of the IPC, including 506.
Kharkamni had led a group to the police station demanding the release of a boy who was earlier picked up by the police after he allegedly assaulted one Amir Ali, a pick-up van driver from Assam, in Sumer, Ri-Bhoi.
