Centre to explore Hydrogen-based fuel technology to combat pollution
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the central government to explore Hydrogen based fuel technology to find solutions to combat air pollution in Northern India including Delhi-NCR. The Centre told the apex court that it is exploring the technology and is looking at methods using which Japan has tackled the pollution crisis by. The bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi directed the Centre to submit the report on the matter by December 3. The bench took suo moto cognizance of the issue. (ANI)


Police cane BJP protesters in Kolkata
KOLKATA: Police made a baton charge, lobbed tear gas shells and used water canons to disperse hundreds of belligerent BJP youth wing leaders who tried to march to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation headquarters on Wednesday protesting against a host of issues including the civic body’s failure to control the Dengue menace in the city. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists flung water bottles, and threw stones at the police who had put up guard rails near Chandni Chawk in central Kolkata to prevent the agitators from reaching the KMC headquarters.Led by BJP state President Dilip Ghosh, the protesters started off from Central Avenue, raising slogans against the civic authorities’ negligence in containing the spread of dengue in the city. Court extends PC’s judicial custody
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court Wednesday extended the judicial custody of former finance minister P Chidambaram till November 27 in the INX Media money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate. Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar passed the order after the senior Congress leader was produced before the court through video conference. Chidambaram could not be brought to the Rouse Avenue Courts premises due to the lawyers’ strike in district courts in the national capital. The ED moved an application seeking extension of custody which was allowed by the court. Chidambaram, 74, was arrested by the CBI on August 21 in the INX Media corruption case and is currently in the ED custody in a related money laundering matter. (PTI)
