SHILLONG: President of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Associations (KJDSTA), Babu Kular Khongjirem supports the idea to close down schools as quality education is a must which will benefit the students and society as a whole.
It may be mentioned that Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui said that the government has decided to close down all the schools with few students in the state.
He said that the association will remind the government again and again that the state needs quality education.
“We used to tell the government that DSEOs and SDOs should not just sit in the office but spot enquiry is also needed. The government has to conduct enquiry on what are the infrastructures that are lacking and try to rectify,” he said.
Meanwhile, organising cum publicity secretary of Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association, E.G. War said, “It is all upto the government to check. There are schools where there are many teachers with fewer students, so such schools should be closed down”.
However, he went on to add that if there is an attempt of the government to do so, then it should find out why there are less students.
War said that there are some teachers who entrust their work to others which is not favourable for students
