SHILLONG: The Petroleum Dealers Association of Meghalaya has resolved to call for a ‘No purchase, no sale’ strike on November 25 demanding immediate permission to the 4 dealers to load fuel and let them continue the trade.
Addressing the press, president of the association, Kennedy Khyriem appealed to the public to bear with the one-day strike. The strike will be from the midnight of November 25 till the midnight of November 26.
He informed that 4 petrol pumps namely Ms Mylliem Service Station (Mylliem-HPCL), M/s Nongstoin Highway service Station (Nongspung-IOCL), M/s Ri-Lyngngam Service Station (Riangdo-IOCL) and M/s Power Point Service Station (Khliehriat-HPCL), belonging to four dealers who are closely related to each other, have been suffering and incurring severe losses as their retail outlets have been closed down owing to the non-fulfillment of demands by the members of Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU). The other association members said that the closure of supplies has not only severely affected the dealers but the general public as well. The closure of petrol pump in Riangdo, West Khasi Hills, which is the sole outlet in that area, has made the public travel to far flung places to purchase petrol/diesel for the last three months.
Joint general secretary of the association, Sanchet Sureka said the dealers had filed a writ petition in the Gauhati High Court, which suspended the directive of APMU to close supplies to the four petrol pumps. However, he said that the court order was not implemented and supplies were closed.
