Training on disaster response in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh: In order to effectively manage and respond to any disasters that occur in future, the office of District Disaster Management Authority, Ri Bhoi, organised a one-day training for the District Incident Response Team (IRT) of Ri Bhoi District on Incident Response System (IRS) at Conference Hall, Circuit House, Nongpoh, on Monday.
This training was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner, CEO DDMA DP Kharsati in the presence of Addl Deputy Commissioner D Phawa, Addl. Deputy Commissioner BJ Kharshandi, Extra Assistant Commissioner FM Lakiang, Extra Assistant Commissioner VA Hynniewta, District Disaster Management Authority K Wanniang, district heads from various government departments and representatives from Umroi Airport Authority.
DP Kharsati, in his speech, said that the purpose of the training for the IRT is to equip each and every member of the team on the role and responsibilities based on the IRS for quick and effective response as a team in times of disaster.
Fire Prevention Officer, Fire & Emergency Service (HQ), Shillong, M Rymbai briefed on effectiveness of ball-like fire extinguishers whereas DM Consultant S Bordoloi, who was also the resource person for the day, lectured on the topic ‘Introduction of IRS, roles and responsibilities, principles and features of IRS’.
Booklets on ‘Search & Rescue and First Responders’ were also released by Kharsati and other dignitaries during the training
Furthermore, representatives from Energy & Fire, Delhi, demonstrated on the use of ‘Fire 1on1’ — an automatic & portable fire extinguisher — in times of fire emergencies.
