Workers’ union to go on strike over demands

SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya Muster Roll Progressive Workers Union on Monday served a notice of strike to the government and all muster roll workers from across the state.
The union, in a release, said that it will be going on an indefinite strike beginning anytime from December 10. This notice of strike has been served given the government’s apathy to their various demands, for which they have agitating for the past two weeks.
The union had submitted a charter of demands to the government almost a year ago that were followed up by several reminders. The demands include release of their pending wages and other arrears. Other demands include remuneration of all muster roll workers and fair, transparent and systematic processes of regularisation of their services while providing entitlements such as equal pay for equal work, leave, PF, EL, ESI etc.
The union which consists of members from various departments such as PHE, PWD, horticulture, water resources, health, forest etc, will also be going on mass casual leave this Wednesday as a mark of protest.
