MAWKYRWAT: PHE Minister and chief organiser of the HSPDP, Samlin Malngiang, has claimed that there are some MLAs and MDCs who have approached him to join the party.
Addressing party workers after confirming the office bearers of the HSPDP Mawkyrwat Area Unit at Mawkyrwat on Wednesday, Malngiang said, “There are some MLAs who have asked to join the party and some MDCs who have asked for party tickets in the upcoming general election in the state from the constituencies where we do not have MLAs or MDCs from our party”.
He, however, did not want to reveal their names.
“East Shillong MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh whispered to me and said, “Sam, you know my father had also won from the HSPDP?” And I said, what about you? She just smiled and said, `you are too good’ “.
Stating that the HSPDP is the most trusted regional party in the state, he called upon the party workers to work hard to regain the love and trust of the voters for the party to rise again.
He also said that he has instructed the presidents of the area units to reorganise the party by strengthening the polling units and primary units to retain the party’s vote bank.
“To fight for the issues that affects the Jaitbynriew, we need more MLAs and we need majority and therefore we need to keep strengthening the party,” Malngiang said, adding that the party is still firm in its stance to fight against any issues that affect the Jaitbynriew especially the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019.
Meanwhile, Mawkyrwat MLA and president of the HSPDP Mawkyrwat Area Unit, Renikton L Tongkhar informed that during the meeting with the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, the party had recommended the amendment of the Para 12 A (b) of the Sixth Schedule that allows the President to issue the notification that any act of the government of India will not apply in Scheduled Areas.
“We want to bring an amendment in Para 12 A (b) of the Sixth Schedule to give the privilege to the governor of Meghalaya instead of the President of India to issue a notification that the CAB or any act that was against the interest of the Jaitbynriew will not apply in the Schedule Areas of Meghalaya,” Tongkhar said, adding that the chief minister has send the recommendation to the Law Department to study before taking up the issue.
The newly elected office bearers of the HSPDP Mawkyrwat Area unit include Renikton L Tongkhar as president, Jeslanroy Nongsiej and Wistar Wanniang as vice presidents, Prosper Wanniang as general secretary, Defineties Dkhar and Bantei Marbaniang as joint secretaries, Donbok Kharjahrin as treasuer, Trelling Marwein and KTS Nongbet as advisers and members of the executive committee.
