SHILLONG: The East Garo Hills Tribal Contractors Association has asked the chief secretary to instruct all departments, including PWD, PHE and Water Resources, to approve the projects, estimates and DPRs submitted by the officers.
The contractors said that there are a number of project proposals which have been submitted by the departments in the district but which are yet to be approved even after two-three years.
“Those who suffer because of this are people of the district in general and contractors in particular as they are becoming jobless,” the association said.
The association also alleged favouritism on the part of the government in clearing the bills of the contractors with some getting regular payments while others do not depending on their party affiliation.
The association also said that usually before Christmas season, different departments used to issue tenders for small repairing works to help the small contractors, but no such work has been allotted since the last two years.
