TURA: As part of the ‘Annual Knowledge Sharing Event’ initiative under Megha-LAMP, the Knowledge Management Unit, Shillong, in collaboration with the District Project Management Unit, Tura, conducted a community dialogue under the theme ‘Leveraging on Social Media for Knowledge Sharing and Learning’ at Chibonggre SSA School under Dadenggre Sub-Division of West Garo Hills District on Friday.
The Knowledge Management Unit works to introduce farmers to social media platforms, particularly YouTube, to provide them with a platform for sharing and disseminating knowledge, and to also gain recognition for their work.
The aim is to follow established farmers from other states that have managed to create a space for themselves on social media and are now actively contributing towards the enrichment of knowledge of local farmers across the country.
There are many good practices amongst the communities that are being lost due to the lack of documentation and interest by modern generation.
By empowering farmers with the right skills and knowledge and by leveraging on the increasing accessibility of social media, it may be possible to document, preserve and propagate such knowledge.
This is a chain programme which took off on 21st November, 2019 at Mawjrong Village, East Khasi Hills, followed by another event on 22nd November, 2019 at Chamcham Village in East Jaintia Hills.
As in the earlier events, interactive sessions with Bante Ch Marak, Sakthivel R, Ujjwal Shukla and Elizer Bareh took place in which they highlighted the use of social media and shared their initial journey on Youtube and its benefits.
