SHILLONG: The Hill Farmers Union (HFU) will increase production of organic seeds to market them in other states, said its president Commander Shangpliang in a statement issued here recently.
However, to take the “ambitious step” forward, Shangpliang said the union needs the help of farmers and the support of the state government. He appealed to the people to provide land for the purpose. A delegation of the HFU took part in the organic festival, known as the 7th National Biennial Convention on Organic Farming held in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Led by HFU general secretary Allfondbirth Kharsyntiew, the union presented organic agricultural produce such as mustard seeds, pumpkin, sohngang, chiilies and cucumber, among other things.
