Anomalies in airport project alleged

SHILLONG: A resident of Syllei-u-Lar, Umroi, filed an RTI application and the reply revealed that a bill of Rs 11, 72, 47, 922 was paid to contractors without carrying out the task entrusted to them as part of the Umroi Airport expansion in Umktieh.
Addressing the press on Monday, Kronding Nongbsap said the three contractors namely Renaldi Ryngksai, Banalari Khongwar and M/S Dhar private company did not dump the debris from the earth cutting as per the work order at a place which is about 10 kms from the site.
He filed the complaint at the office of the Meghalaya Lokayukta on the earth cutting by private parties working for the Umroi Airport expansion at Umktieh and was unhappy over the sudden transfer of the executive engineer, M. Pyrbot.
Nongbsap informed that Pyrbot paid the bills to the contractors even as they dumped the debris from the earth cutting at the site.
He alleged that Pyrbot paid bills to the contractor without any work. Through at the RTI reply, it was found that the amount sanctioned is Rs 20, 95, 86, 000 out of which Rs 19, 83, 17, 871 was released.
Unhappy over the Meghalaya Lokyukta, he said that CBI enquiry should take up the corruption issue in the Airport expansion case in Umktieh.
Nongbsap also rued that till date there is no Khasi translator in Meghalaya Lokayukta which turns out to be a hindrance to those who don’t understand English
