Women’s panel chief encourages vaccination

State launch of IMI 2.0, PMMVY

 

Shillong/Nongpoh/NONGSTOIN/TURA: Chairperson, Meghalaya State Commission for Women, Theilin Phanbuh said that mothers in the rural areas are apprehensive of taking benefits from the government programmes due to fear and misconceptions.
Speaking at the week-long Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) Programme 2.0 and Matru Vandana Saptah under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), which were launched in the state on Monday, Phanbuh called upon the health service providers to travel extra mile to create awareness and explain about the benefits of the health schemes.
She also said that mothers have a huge role to play to build a healthy society, adding that it is important to take the opportunity to utilise these government programmes for self-benefit and the benefit of children as well.
The state launch was held at Ganesh Das Government MCH Hospital, Lawmali, wherein Phanbuh and the Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meena Kharkongor were the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

The main objective of these programmes is to ensure reaching the unreached with all the available vaccines, thereby, accelerating the complete immunisation coverage of children and pregnant women in the state.
IMI 2.0 focuses on children up to two years of age and pregnant women who have been left uncovered under the immunisation programme.
PMMVY, on the other hand, is a maternity-benefit programme run by the Government of India. It is a conditional cash transfer scheme for pregnant, lactating women of 19 years of age and above who will be provided monetary benefit of Rs 5,000 in three instalments.
Kharkongor, on the other hand, said that right to survival is one of the fundamental rights of the child where a child needs a healthy home, healthy parents and healthy environment. She expressed concern that children, especially in rural areas, are deprived of healthcare and vaccinations due to lack of information about the importance of these vaccinations.
She also called upon the health workers in the field level to take the information to the grass-root level.
Nongpoh
The office of the District Medical & Health Officer, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh, on Monday launched the two flagship programmes viz. the IMI 2.0 and the PMMVY for the beneficiaries of Ri Bhoi District at Pahamrioh Them Community Hall, Ri Bhoi.
The programme was attended by DM&HO Dr M Mawrie, Additional Civil Surgeons Dr DM Momin and Dr M Syiemlieh, CDPO V War, Programme Coordinator of PMMVY S Wankhar, PHN L Markhap, Headman of Pahamrioh Them K Suting and others.  
Dr M Syiemlieh, while speaking to the beneficiaries, highlighted on the importance of immunisation for both pregnant women and children. She said that IMI 2.0 is one of the flagship programmes of the government of India which aims at immunising children under the age 0-2 years and pregnant women from 19 years of age and above.
She also stressed on the need to vaccine children at the right time to help them grow as healthy citizens in future.
Dr Mawrie, highlighting the importance of the two programmes, urged women to come forward to register themselves for their sustainable livelihood and also encouraged pregnant women and mothers to complete the courses of vaccination at the right time. The DM&HO also urged the beneficiaries to open a bank account and to submit the same during registration for hassle-free money transfer.
Free vaccination to children (0-2 years) of Pahamrioh village was also given during the day.    
WGH and SGH
The week-long IMI Programme 2.0 and Matru Vandana Saptah under PMMVY were launched on Monday at Rongramgre village near Tura, West Garo Hills District.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, the District Medical and Health Officer, Tura, Dr MR Sangma highlighted the importance of vaccination.
DM&CHO, Tura, Dr IM Sangma, talking about the misconceptions about this vaccine which people have, especially in rural areas, she urged everyone to discard them (misconceptions) and avail these schemes without fear. Sangma also informed about the PMMVY, which is a maternity-benefit programme.
Meanwhile in South Garo Hills, the Matru Vandana Saptah under PMMVY was launched at the district-level by DC HB Marak at Zion Hall, Baghmara Civil Hospital. 
Earlier, Dr Jacob Broney Marak, Member Secretary of PMMVY SGH, urged for holding of week-long activities like enrollment drive, organising Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day for pregnant and lactating mothers. 
Nongstoin
In Nongstoin, Block Development Officer CP Mawkon launched the IMI 2.0 programme and PMMVYS on the theme ‘Towards Building a Healthy Nation’ in the office premises of the DM&HO.
