SPARK holds event for children
SHILLONG: SPARK-Bringing Light to Lives, Meghalaya, organised an ‘Eight-Day Life Skills Training Programme for Underprivileged Children’ which started at Pongkung Village and concluded on Thursday at Traishnong, Mawlynrei Village. The programme was supported by the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, EKH, Department of Social Welfare, Shillong. Around 800 people participated in the programme, including children, youth and parents. During the programme, information on crime against children, child rights, gender issue, role and responsibility of children and their parents, and various other important social issues were provided to the participants. The children were also provided training to manage their stress and anxiety. Documentaries on issues pertaining to child rights, human trafficking and crime against women were also screened. Cases related to abuse were also reported during the training which was forwarded to the concerned departments.
MoU for Civil Hospital Cancer Wing
SHILLONG: Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd and Hospital Authority of DAE-Civil Hospital Cancer Wing, Civil Hospital, Shillong, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently. Under the MoU, hospital furniture and fixtures/fixing of the Reception area and Daycare Ward of the DAE — Civil Hospital Cancer Wing will be provided which costs around Rs 46,71,084. The MoU was signed by AK Borthakur, General Manager on behalf of POWERGRID and TG Momin, MCS, Joint Secretary, dept of Health & Family Welfare and Dr WW Phira, Junior Director of Health Service (SS), Civil Hospital.
Workshop on traditional instruments
TURA: A six-day traditional instrument workshop of the A’chik Literature Society (ALS), which began recently at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School premises, was inaugurated by ALS President Prof Caroline R Marak. Addressing the participants on the opening day, Marak spoke about the role of culture, musical instruments and dances in A’chik society, which have their sources in the deep spirituality of the ancestors. A variety of drumbeats, dances for both boys and girls, and different ways of playing the flute among others were taught during the workshop.
Pre-Christmas celebration at YWCA
Shillong: YWCA of Shillong celebrated pre-Christmas along with the hostellers, members and staff. The celebration concluded with a prayer and benediction by Ingty followed by a carolling. Meanwhile, YWCA of Shillong also observed International Day for People with Disability by visiting Missionaries of Charity, Children’s Home at Nongrimbah, and distributed food and fruits for 36 children including the day scholars.
