SHILLONG: In sharp contrast to the opposition expressed by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday said that all the chief ministers of North East have not opposed the Bill.
Talking to media persons here on the sidelines of the concluding function of the North East Food Show 2019 on Friday, Deb said that the entire country has welcomed this move and even all the chief ministers of North East have not opposed this bill.
He also claimed that apprehension of CAB changing the demography of the region was wrong as it will instead protect the states and secure the country.
“The Union Home minister had placed it beautifully in front of the country that we will not allow anyone to just come and go but to identify them accordingly, and then only we can develop our country,” he said.
He also maintained that all the clauses to protect the ADCs and areas falling under sixth schedule have been discussed and “they will be protected under this Bill”.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that Arunachal Pradesh has its own law in place to protect its citizens from the fallout of the CAB.
He said the opposition in Arunachal is relatively mild as compared to few other states of the North East.
He, however, said that if the situation gets tensed in the future in other Northeastern states, he would definitely stand in support of his friends and hold discussions to bail them out of the situation.
