SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) has demanded for a special Assembly session to be convened to discuss on the vehement and prolonged demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP), and for the resolution to be sent to Delhi.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, FKJGP president Wellbirth Rani said that there was a resolution which was passed in 2013.
“At the special session, ILP should be discussed thoroughly,” he said.
At the same time, Rani said to calm down the situation in Meghalaya, pressure has to be put in Delhi to seek the early assent on the ordinance of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act. On the other hand, he observed that traditional heads play an important role to safeguard the interest of the indigenous people in addition to the presence of laws. Rani warned that if the situation in the state goes bad, the government should take responsibility and not blame the people or organisations.
With Meghalaya being a transit state, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) president Sadon Blah suggested that the government should formulate a policy.
