SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Police on Saturday denied rumours that some protesters who participated in the rally called by CoMSO on Friday received bullet injuries and have died of the same.
The district SP Claudia Lyngwa, in a statement issued here, said that there was only one person with grievous injuries as he fell from the top of a wall and iron grills pierced his abdomen.
“There was no such firing during the rally and all security personnel were with anti riot equipment comprising cane and stun shells only,” she added.
According to police, the medical report had indicated that ‘there are no traces of bullet found and no exit wound found’
Lyngwa also said that the department is taking note of rumours and would ensure that such rumour mongers are identified and booked under relevant sections of law for spreading false, baseless and dangerous information.
Earlier, Opposition Chief Whip and Congress legislator PT Sawkmie, who visited the injured persons at Civil Hospital, said that the state government must bear all the medical expenditure of the people who were injured in the melee near Raj Bhawan on Friday.
Condemning the police action, Sawkmie said women were also injured during the protest.
