SHILLONG: Former Nongkrem MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit and KHNAM legislator Adelbert Nongrum have asked the MDA government to pass a resolution in the Assembly to exempt Citizenship (Amendment) Act from the state.
Commenting on ILP, Basaiawmoit said the state government should issue a notification to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) instead of having a special session of the state legislative assembly to bring the ILP resolution.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said that even the state government of Nagaland issued a notification to bring Dimapur within the purview of ILP.
“But I also prefer the state government to bring a resolution to exempt Citizenship Amendment Act”, said Basaiawmoit.
He criticised the government and the opposition for demanding ILP after seeing the current situation.
“Their demand for ILP is not from the heart but they are doing so after seeing the public outcry,” Basaiawmoit said, adding that there is a need for a political will to implement ILP.
Nongrum said that beyond the implementation of ILP, there is a need to bring in a resolution to exempt CAA in Meghalaya.
