SHILLONG: Meghalaya went down to Goa by an innings and eight runs in their second Ranji Trophy match in Goa on Friday.
Goa had opted to field first in the four-day match and bowled out Meghalaya for 203 on the first day, with guest-professional Ravi Teja top-scoring with 81.
Meghalaya then had the hosts on the ropes early on, with Goa poised on 40/3, thanks to wickets from Abhay Negi and Dipu Sangma. However, they were able to regroup with centuries from Snehal Kauthankar (179) and Sumiran Amonkar (129) to post 463 all out, a lead of 260.
Negi finished with a five-wicket haul (5/90) – his first in first-class cricket – while Mark Ingty (2/30), Sangma (2/47) and Sajay Yadav (1/102) were also among the wickets.
Teja was ruled out of Meghalaya’s second innings due to injury, so other batsmen had to step up and fellow guest-professional Punit Bisht top-scored with 51, while Negi also struck a half-century (50) for a good all-round performance. Meghalaya, however, could only muster 252 on the board, giving Goa a big victory.
