SHILLONG: The United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM) on Saturday expressed its gratitude to all the people of Khasiland who came forward and supported the move for Inner Line Permit (ILP).
In a statement issued here, the general secretary of UHM, Charlie J Rani, said the recent protests in demand for ILP witnessed the unity and the love of the people for their land.
“Some of them were injured and hospitalised and some were also arrested, but that did not cow them down. UHM extends its gratitude to each and everyone who stood up tooth and nail in support for the demand for ILP by participating in protests and rallies organised by different organisations,” Rani said in the statement.
Though the resolution for ILP has been passed by the state government, the organisation said now it is in the hand of the Centre and “we will not sit until the Centre gives nod for ILP”.
“We urge the government at the Centre not to delay in giving its approval… At the same time, we will continue to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act,” UHM said.
Appreciating the unity of different organisations in the move for ILP, UHM urged the respective leaders to continue to be united and fight for the rights of the people. “We must stop pointing fingers at each others, let our aim and motive be to serve the indigenous people,” Rani said.
