GUWAHATI: Sleuths of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at the residence and office of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) advisor, Akhil Gogoi, here on Thursday morning.

Speaking to the media later, Akhil’s wife, Gitashree Tamuly, who was present when the search was carried out, informed that the NIA officials had seized some particular files from the peasant leader’s residence.

“They searched the entire house and took away some selected files including documents relating National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), bank and identification documents, handwritten documents which Akhil had complied for a book on his previous jail experience, documents related to the Kaziranga orchid and biodiversity park (run by KMSS as a cooperative society), a laptop of the organisation, etc,” Tamuly said.

The Assam police had as a preventive measure, arrested Akhil on December 12, and a case was registered against him amid uproar against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 across the state.

Two days later, the case was handed over to NIA, which had taken the peasant leader in its custody for ten days. Akhil was booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Unlawful (Activities) Prevention Act.

Meanwhile, the peasant leader was produced before a special NIA court here on Thursday.
