SHILLONG: Though there are many power projects planned by the state government, their execution is tardy resulting in shortage of power in the state.
An official source said that besides the delay in the implementation of power projects, the power dues to NEEPCO and other agencies bring addition burden to the government.
While the state government will have to pay over Rs 600 crore to NEEPCO as power dues, the power generation from the existing power plants is not able to address the demands of the consumers.
The government has already imposed power cuts from December 21.
The state is depending solely on hydel power projects due to the difficulties in implementing thermal power projects.
Earlier, the government had claimed that it had identified 15 power projects which are under implementation by different agencies in the state.
While six power projects are on BOOT basis (build, own, operate, transfer) and 4 power projects on BOO (build, own, operate) basis, two are thermal power projects and three are of new and renewable energy projects.
