GUWAHATI: The Anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019, continues to haunt Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as he was shown black flag while attending a government function at Cinnamara in Jorhat district on Monday.
Sonowal, along with Union minister Rameswar Teli, other ministers, members of parliament and government officials were present at the meeting when a protester started waving a black flag at the chief minister.
The youth also raised ‘Joi Aai Asom’ slogan, before security personnel snatched the black flag and whisked him away.
The chief minister was attending a farmers’ meet at Cinnamara tea estate to lay the foundation stone of a primary health centre in the tea estate.
The chief minister has been shown the black flag at different places since the anti-CAA protests intensified in the state from earlier this month.
He had encountered similar resistance from the people when the CAA was introduced as a Bill by the last Narendra Modi-led government in January this year. (UNI)
