NE Inter College Debate at Sonapur College on Feb 5

GUWAHATI :  Sonapur College Assam  near here in Assam is organising the North East India Inter College Debating Competition-2019-20 on February 5 at 10.30 AM in the college premises.

The topic of the debate is, in the opinion of the house- “Frequent experiments and policy changes in Indian Education Scenario has actually created problems than solutions”.

The former Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh and former Chairperson, Union Public Service Commission, Prof. David Reid Syiemlieh will grace the debate competition as the Speaker of the House.

The debate competition has acquired reputations over the years and become a favourite destination for the budding talents of debate. On earlier occasions, the competition was chaired by the stalwarts like former Speaker of Lok \sabha, Late P. A. Sangma, renowned columnist, poet and editor of Nagaland Page, Monalisha Chankija and former Governor of Meghalaya, Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary.

The debaters in the competition can speak either in English or in Assamese. The organising committee has requested the Principals of different colleges of the region to send a team each comprising  (two) debaters, one to speak for and the other against the motion.

The organisers have informed that the winners of the competition will be awarded with the Sinam Uriba Singh Memorial Prizes which comprises of trophies and cash prizes. The best and the second best debater will be awarded with Rs 10,000/- and Rs. 7000/- respectively, while the third best debater will receive Rs. 5,000/-, besides memorial trophies. Similarly, the best team and the second best team will be honoured with Rs. 5,000/- and Rs. 3, 000/-, besides memorial trophies.
