India U-19 thrash Afghanistan
Pretoria: India rode opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fifty and pacer Kartik Tyagi’s three-wicket haul to script a facile 211-run victory against Afghanistan in a warm up tie for U-19 World Cup here on Sunday. India scored 255/8 in 50 overs batting first as Jaiswal cracked 69 off 97 balls and N.T. Tilak Verma hit 55 before retiring. In reply, Afghanistan were skittled out for just 44 in 17.5 overs with Tyagi (3/10) being the wrecker in chief. Brief scores: India 255/8 in 50 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 69, N.T. Stoinis slams record in BBL
Melbourne: Marcus Stoinis on Sunday scored the highest individual score in Big Bash League (BBL) history, a 79-ball 147 for Melbourne Stars here. His sustained onslaught powered the Stars to a 44-run victory over Sydney Sixers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Stoinis, who was released by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the auction for the 2020 season and was picked up by Delhi Capitals, smashed 13 fours and eight sixes during his blistering innings. He is not part of the Australia squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series in India. Stoinis broke the record held by D’Arcy Short, who made a 69-ball unbeaten 122 two years ago. (PTI)


Roca is new Hyderabad coach
Hyderabad: Indian Super League (ISL) side Hyderabad FC have named former Bengaluru FC boss Albert Roca as their new coach. As per the ISL website, Roca will take full charge from the 2020/21 season and will be advising the staff for the remainder of the current season. It further said that the Spaniard has been signed on a two-year deal which will see him helm the team till the end of the 2021-22 season.Roca led Bengaluru FC to the final of the 2016 AFC Cup and his first silverware came in the form of the Federation Cup which Bengaluru won in 2017. Kohli trolls Ishant
New Delhi: Fast bowler Ishant Sharma’s latest Instagram post with a motivational caption — “you only live once” — was nothing out of the ordinary.However, what seems to have caught fire as much as the post itself is Indian captain Virat Kohli’s commment on it.”@ishant.sharma29 hamein toh pata hi nahi tha (We didn’t know that),” joked Kohli in the comment section.Kohli and Ishant are next expected to turn out together for the Indian team when they face New Zealand in a two-Test series away from home in February. The first Test will be played at Wellington from February 21 to 25. It will be followed by the second Test in Christchurch from February 29 to March 4.While Kohli will be leading the Indian team against Australia in the home ODI series and the limited overs leg of the New Zealand tour before that, Ishant is expected to accrue more game time in the Ranji Trophy. NBA India beat Szolnoki
New Delhi: NBA Academy India made a powerful come back to beat Szolnoki Kosarlabda Akademia 66-56 in their last game in the Stage II of European Youth Basketball League in Szolnok, Hungary, on Sunday. Kerala’s Pranav Prince and Harshawardhan Tomar of Madhya Pradesh were impressive as they scored 15 points each while their compatriot Manoj Sisodiya shined with 13 points. The team controlled the game in the first quarter by maintaining a 16-11 lead but Szolnoki Akademia fought back in the second quarter by closing on a 19-19 stalemate. In the third and fourth quarters, NBA Academy India end their campaign in the fourth position. (IANS)
