SHILLONG: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum recently visited Shillong District jail and distributed blankets to the inmates in the presence of Jailor J Marbaniang, Superintendent D Warlarpih.
His wife and friend, who financed the idea, were also present. Around 500 blankets to both male and female inmates were distributed.
Speaking on the occasion, Nongrum said that he decided to distribute the blankets as the temperature dropped in Shillong.
“I remember a saying: ‘There is, but one temple in the world, and that is the body of man. Nothing is holier than this. We touch heaven when we lay our hand on a human body’. Today I brought these blankets because we are the same being which God has created. I must have blankets in my family because of this severe cold. So why not you,” he said.
He also said that he gave the blankets as a Christmas gift to the inmates of the jail.
