SHILLONG: AVENUES recently launched 17th Annual winter workshops in the region to provide children between 8-16 years a productive way to spend their time during winter vacation from their schools.
The workshops are aimed at the personal growth of the children at a time where it is being widely acknowledged that formal school curriculums are struggling to meet the holistic development of its students.
The workshops feature sessions that are focused on developing personal values, confidence, self-worth, communication, public speaking and leadership within the students, as well as identifying and encouraging their talents.
The workshops also include a range of indoor and outdoor activities that support the children’s sense of self-discovery.
In an aim to build inclusivity and to provide empowerment to children from various backgrounds, the workshops also have a special Children Outreach programme wherein 22 children from Nongrim Hills, this year, were involved.
The Children Outreach Programme, which was held for five days at Nongrim Hills Community Centre in the city, has become an important highlight of the Annual Winter Workshops.
Speaking at a graduation programme organised for the children at Nongrim Hills Community Centre, Bantylli Rani, the rangbahshnong of the locality, said that the programme was in line with the theme of ‘Growing Together Lifting Together’ adopted by the locality administration for the year.
Rani felt that the initiatives like these would help create inclusivity of the youth for their development in the Shnong, and also build a sense of equal opportunity for all young people.
