SHILLONG: BJP’s Senior leader in Meghalaya, Ernest Mawrie who unsuccessfully contested the 2018 Assembly polls from Nongthymmai constituency, was elected uncontested as the new state president of the BJP here on Wednesday.
After the completion of the election process, the state returning officer, JA Lyngdoh, declared Mawrie as the state president of Meghalaya.
Union minister for animal husbandry Sanjeev Kumar Balyanji and national secretary in-charge of Tripura Sunil Deodhar were present as the election observers.
Speaking to media persons after being elected, Mawrie said that his priority would be to focus on the development of the state as there were several central schemes being implemented.
“We have follow up and ensure that benefits of these schemes reach people,” he said.
BJP National Secretary, Sunil Deodar earlier said that the BJP was the only democratic party which conducts organizational elections under the observation of the Central Election Commission.
Informing that there were aspirants for the post of the state president as people come into politics to fulfill the aspirations of the people, he added that the party did justice to all and appeasement to none.
“ We are working by taking everyone together,” he claimed.
The name of Mawrie as the state president was proposed by senior party leader, AL Hek and seconded by David Kharsati and later he was unanimously elected as the party president in Meghalaya.
