Beti Bachao Beti Padhao celebration
SHILLONG: The celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) week was launched on Monday at Training Hall, DC Office, Nongpoh, by the District Task Force, dealing with the scheme. Deputy Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi District Nongpoh RM Kurbah; ADC-cum-Nodal Officer, BBBP, D Phawa; District Programme Officer ICDS (Cell) Ri-Bhoi District, DV Massar; CDPOs; Headman; NRLM; SHGs; AWWs; among others attended the programme. Kurbah, who was the chief guest in the programme, stressed on the need to put in extra efforts by all stakeholders, which include the headmen, officials of line departments, SHGs, etc., to safeguard the right of girl child and women at large. The DC also requested the participants to take part during the week-long programme.
Awareness on entrepreneurship
Shillong: Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) in collaboration with Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) will organise NER Entrepreneurship & Start Ups Summit ‘NERES 1.0’. The summit, which will be held in March under the sponsorship of North Eastern Council (NEC), is aimed at promoting start-up entrepreneurs of the North East by offering them with a platform to pitch their business ideas. Twenty best ideas across the region will be rewarded with a start-up grant of Rs 5 lakh each. Prior to the summit, an awareness workshop was also conducted in the city on Monday to create awareness about the summit among the entrepreneurs of Meghalaya. IIE and FINER collaborated with Impulse NGO Network as event partner for the workshop in the city to mobilise state’s entrepreneurs.
Netaji’s birth anniversary in city
SHILLONG: The Greater Shillong Netaji Subhas Chanda Bose Birthday Celebration Committee, Shillong, will celebrate the 123rd birth anniversary of the freedom fighter Subhas Chanda Bose on Thursday at 8:15 am at U SosoTham Auditorium in the city. In a statement, the committee said that paying homage and floral tributes to Netaji, among other activities will mark the day. The committee has also requested the people, various clubs and committee members, NGOs, and senior citizens from the city to join the celebration.
Tyisam fest on Jan 28-29
TURA: The district administration of SGH region, which is hosting the annual winter fest ‘Tyisam’, has announced that the two-day gala event will be taking place on January 28 and 29 at the riverside in Baghmara. The festival, which was scheduled for the second week of December last year, was postponed due to some constraints. The festival will witness traditional celebrations, local cuisine and tourism-related programmes including a music fest.
Ri Bhoi to hold multiple run events
Nongpoh: The office of the Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with the District Sports Officer of Ri Bhoi District will organise the National Voters Day Run 2020, Republic Day Run 2020 and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Run (for girls only) open category for both men and women on Saturday at 7:30 am. In this regard, the office of the District Sports Officer, Ri Bhoi has invited all interested participants from the district to participate in the run. Cash prize of Rs 3,000 will be awarded to the winner, whereas Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,500 for the second and third prize respectively. A special prize for the youngest and oldest participant of Rs 1,000 each will also be awarded. Interested participants are to register themselves at the office of the District Sports Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh, during office hours. The last date for registrations is on January 24.
