Apot screening
SHILLONG: As part of the week long Meghalaya Day celebration, a film Apot which is based on the Khasi folktale Tiewlarun was screened on Wednesday. Director of Arts and Culture, Wilfred Nongsiej said that the film is linked with the culture of the Khasis and said that since the department is promoting Khasi culture, he said that it is a good platform to showcase it. He added that the movie will serve a good purpose in preserving and promoting the culture of Khasis.
WJH Police on R-day vigil
SHILLONG: West Jaintia Hills District Police is on high alert in view of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. West Jaintia Hills SP Lakdador Syiem said that the District Executive Force is on high alert by conducting intensive naka checking, foot patrolling and raids across the district to maintain law and order and to thwart any evil design of anti-social elements. The SP also asked the public to cooperate during checking while asking people to immediately contact police if they witness any suspicious movements.
Rotary vocational award 2020
SHILLONG: As part of the vocational month, which the Rotary International celebrates on January every year, the Vocational Service Awards will be organised at the conference hall of Hotel Pinewood on Friday at 7 pm. Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills Matsiewdor War Nongbri has consented to give away the awards on the day. The award will be in the form of a certificate along with a 4-way test of Rotary. The eight persons who will be awarded include: Under photo journalism – Sanjib Bhattacharjee, tourism and hospitality – Victor Suja, entrepreneur – D Pyngrope, literacy – Pramod K Joshi, sportsperson – Wandahunshisha Mawblei, traffic personnel – L Basumatary, marathoner – Darishisha Ingjuh, health services – Ribasuk Kharmujai.
IIM inaugurates PG programme
SHILLONG: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong inaugurated the eighth edition of Post Graduate Programme for Executives with focus on Managing Business in Emerging Economies (PGPEx-MBEE) on Wednesday. The PG programme started with an invocation by prof. A Mukhopadhyay and an overview by the chairperson of PGPEx-MBEE, prof Rohit Joshi. The current batch has an average work experience of 6.5 years and a rich academic and gender diversity, a release issued here informed. Prof D P Goyal, director of IIM Shillong, while welcoming the new batch emphasised on the transition journey of the batch through a learner-centric and diversified pedagogy. The chief guest for the event, Jayajyoti Sengupta, Head APJ, India & Middle East, Board Member of Cognizant Asia Pacific Geographies, Singapore, spoke on hyper individualisation of businesses, increasing advent of hybridisation of skills and the impact of technology and digitisation in today’s world.
Don Bosco alumni for school’s devp
TURA: The Association of Past Pupils of Don Bosco (APPDB), Tura Unit has decided to come up with several measures to develop the school and its students. The decision was taken during its executive meeting held recently at the school’s premises which was also attended by unit delegate Fr Ignatius K Sangma and principal of the school Fr Threnius Sangma. During the meeting, it was decided to organise career guidance for students of the school as well as free medical check-up, cleaning drive in market areas including blood donation camp in March. In order to tackle financial constraints in charity work and to develop the infrastructure of the Don Bosco Alumni Secondary School, a decision to raise funds through raffle draw with exciting gift prizes for a donation gift coupon of Rs 100 each, was also taken, which has been scheduled for October 31 at the school. Ten students from the school, who successfully passed the SSLC examination, were also felicitated and awarded cash prizes during the meeting.
Sensitisation on safe driving, MV Act
TURA: The New Tura Development Forum (NTDF), in collaboration with the district administration, will organise an ‘Awareness Campaign on Safe and Disciplined Driving’ with special reference to the New Motor Vehicles Act in Tura on January 28. The programme is being organised at the PA Sangma Stadium from 12 pm to 2 pm, which drivers and owners of all vehicles have been requested to attend. The decision to organise the programme was taken in view of the issue of reckless and undisciplined driving especially by the youths, being raised in several meetings and forums conducted by the district administration. “In order to curb all hazards or to reduce them to the maximum, we are organising the programme in the interest of the general public,” L Ch Momin, the general secretary of the New Tura Development Forum informed.
