FIR filed over alleged illegal use of Smriti Irani’s picture by developer
Amethi: An FIR has been lodged on a complaint by Union Minister Smriti Irani’s aide that her picture was used by a developer without her consent in an advertisement, police said on Wednesday. Irani’s private secretary Vijay Gupta had written to the Superintendent of Police, Khyati Garg complaining that a local paper had published an advertisement by Sai Green City, Jagdishpur which had used the pictures, names and designations of some eminent people including Irani to sell plots. “The letter in this connection stressed that the name and picture of the MP (Irani) has been used in the advertisement without her consent for attracting buyers,” SP Garg said. Through the letter, a demand for action has been made and FIR has been lodged in Jagdispur Police Station against some unknown persons and investigations are on, Garg added. Inquiries are on with the MD of the Sai Green City, Virendra Vidhi, his partner Sonu Yagya Saini, gram pradhan Abhay Pratap Singh and others, the SP said. (PTI)
Sonia in Raebareli on two-day visit
Raebareli: Congress President Sonia Gandhi arrived here on a two-day visit to take part in the ongoing training camp of party workers. The Congress president, accompanied by party national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, arrived at the Fursatganj airport Wednesday afternoon. The two drove straight from the airport to Uchahar to meet the family of former MLA Ajay Pal whose son died recently. The two stayed with the family for some time and expressed grief over death of the former MLA’s son. Later, their cavalcade drove to the Bhueymau guest house where the party’s four-day-long training camp is currently going on. The two are here to take part in the camp under which the party’s district and city unit presidents of eastern Uttar Pradesh are getting training. They are also being apprised of the functioning of former leaders of the party who had been at the helm in the past. Today is the third day of the training camp. (PTI)
Worker killed in factory blast
Thane: A 35-year-old worker was killed and three others were seriously injured in an explosion and subsequent fire at a chemical factory in Badlapur town here in Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, officials said. The explosion took place around 8.30 am in a dryer of Kajay Remedies Pvt Ltd, located in Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area of Badlapur, following which a fire broke out in the premises, fire officer Bhagwat Sonone said. “A worker was killed and the three others sustained serious injuries. The injured persons were rushed to a local hospital where they were undergoing treatment,” he said. Three fire engines from Badlapur and neighbouring Ambernath town were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused after about two hours, Thane Municipal Corporation’s regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam said. The deceased has been identified as Vishnu Dhandhar, he added. According to the company’s website, its produces chemical formulations used in the manufacture of various pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and dye intermediates. (PTI)
CBI arrests two for fraud
New Delhi: The CBI arrested an assistant garrison engineer and a junior engineer from the Garrison Engineer’s office, Dehradun for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for clearing bills, officials said on Wednesday. K K Singhal, AGE, and Jahangir Ahmed, JE, were allegedly caught red-handed by the agency while receiving the bribe for clearing the bills of a contractor, they said. According to officials, searches are going on at the residences of the accused persons. (PTI)
