Twin blasts rock Imphal ahead of Republic Day

Imphal: Twin blasts at the heart of the city sent shockwaves ahead of Republic Day here on Thursday. The two IEDs went off at the same time at RIMS road around 5 am. However, no one was injured. The sound was till a long distance as the IEDs were powerful. Many shops near the road were badly damaged. Imphal West police personnel rushed in and cordoned off the area. Massive combing operations are been carried out in view of the Republic Day celebrations. A high alert was sounded and security was beefed up. Many vehicles were also stopped and checked. People were frisked and police were assigned duties at various locations. (UNI)
