Shillong Heritage Walk inaugurated
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday expressed discontentment over the state’s heritage locations not being shared among the people despite the sites being visited by people.
Speaking to the reporters after inaugurating the Shillong Heritage Walk, which started from Wards Lake to Raj Bhawan and ended at Pinewood Hotel, Sangma said, “Even though small stories are available, it has not been structured as such that tourists can see all the heritage aspects,” he said, and added that the objective of the programme is to give facts by giving stories of the sites and connecting all the dots together to bring out unique experience for the tourists.
“This is just the first step and we will have a same programme in Sohra and other locations,” the chief minister said.
The Shillong Heritage Walk, which will be open to public and tourists from next week, will take one through a three-hour guided walk of the British history of the city, with an intent to acquaint one with the city’s rich colonial heritage and history through its buildings, architecture and parks.
The heritage sites include Earle Sanatorium, Khyndailad, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Bhahmo Samaj, Presbyterian Church, Legislative Council Building, Shillong Club, Secretariat Hills, Centenary Monument, PWD Quarters, All Saints Church, Raj Bhawan, Pine Wood Hotel and Wards Lake.
