Mitigation meet in city
SHILLONG: A meeting on National Seismic Risk Mitigation Programme (NSRMP) was held on Friday at Main Secretariat, which was attended by officials of various government departments. A team member of NSRMP, Amit Kumar, said there are 800 facilities in the state out of which, 120 facilities are being identified in the first phase for assessment and retrofitting. The discussion was on prioritisation of facilities/infrastructure in the state. Prioritisation is done on the basis of various parameters such as multi-hazards district profile, building typology, age, size and occupant load.
North East NSS fest ends
TURA: The week-long North East National Service Scheme Festival came to a colourful conclusion in Tura on Friday evening at the Don Bosco College. Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Regional Director, NSS Guwahati, Dipak Kumar, said that holding this colorful festival of unity of the Northeastern youths was a long-cherished dream and felt need of the NSS Regional Directorate to organise a programme at a grand scale in the Garo Hills region. During the programme, the participants were presented with certificates of participation, while trophies and mementoes were also presented to the best performers in Talent Hunt (male and female).
Unclaimed bodies
SHILLONG: The office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills has informed that on December 28, 2019, at 10.40 am, one Dulal Das, resident of Silchar, Assam, was brought to NEIGRIHMS Hospital by the security staff of the hospital. However, on January 8, at 10 pm he passed away. Accordingly, inquest and other legal formalities have been observed and after post-mortem examination, the body was kept in NEIGRIHMS morgue room for identification and claiming. In a separate incident, the SP’s office informed that on January 19, at 4.45 pm, it received information from PCR Shillong that one unknown male, approximately 45 years, was found lying unconscious near IGP point, who was shifted to Civil Hospital Shillong for treatment. However, on January 20, the person expired at the hospital. After inquest, the body was sent to SDM&HO CH, Shillong for post-mortem, following which, the body was kept in the Civil Hospital morgue room for identification and claiming.
