National Girl Child Day celebrated

Shillong: Along with the rest of the country, National Girl Child Day was also celebrated in the city on Friday.
The event was initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Government of India in 2008 with an aim to spread awareness about all the inequalities a girl child faced in the Indian society, and to also promote a healthy environment for girls.
Here, the day was organised by the District Task Force on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, EKH, in collaboration with the office of the District Programme Officer, ICDS, EKH, at U Soso Tham Auditorium.
Chief guest MN Nampui, Secretary to the state government, said that the objective of the programme is to create awareness among the people about the problems faced by girl child in the society and to eliminate the inequalities faced by them.
