MLA lays base for church building

MAWKYRWAT: Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the building of St. Cecilia Catholic Church at Photjaud Rangthong, South West Khasi Hills, in the presence of Mawkyrwat MDC Carness Sohshang, Parish Priest of Mawkyrwat Parish, Fr. Venky FridingSyiemiong and others.
The church, which is now 72 years old, was founded in 1947.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Marwein promised to extend his helping hand and cooperate with the church so that the building can be completed on time.
Meanwhile, Mawkyrwat MDC Carness Sohshang called upon the members of the church to remain united and work together so that they can complete the project.
“To move forward and complete the building we need cooperation among the members and throw away all differences,” Sohshang said.
Others who spoke included Fr. Venky Friding Kharsyiemiong, Parish Priest of Mawkyrwat Parish, Lista Thongni, president of Seng Longkmie, Balang Shnong, St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Photjaud Rangthong, Shiningstar Lyngdoh, president, Seng Samla St. Cecilia Catholic Church Photjaud Rangthong.
