SHILLONG: Centuries from Yogesh Tiwari and Anish Charak took Meghalaya from a precarious position to one of strength on the penultimate day of their U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy match in Guwahati.
Meghalaya were 71/5 at stumps on Thursday, leading by 43 in their second innings.
They were able to get out of that scary position thanks to centuries by Tiwari (121) and No. 8 Charak (159), with the pair putting on 230 for the seventh wicket. Charak smashed nine sixes and 16 fours in his innings and had a strike rate of over 150. Charak, incidentally, was also the top scorer in Meghalaya’s first innings of 219 with 64.
Mukesh Rai (27) and Elchiang Ch Momin (10) also added some useful runs at the tail-end and Meghalaya were finally dismissed for 407, setting Sikkim a target of 380 to win. At stumps, Sikkim were 31/2, with Momin (1/1 in 6 overs) and Charak (1/8 in 5 overs) taking the two wickets.
