NEHU holds 3-day camp for students
SHILLONG: Students from various districts of Meghalaya recently took part in a three-day residential Salters’ Camp held in the Department of Chemistry, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), in collaboration with Salters’ Institute, UK, and Royal Society of Chemistry, Bangalore. The camp was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, SK Srivastava. The camp, which ended on January 30, aimed at encouraging school students to take up a career in chemistry. The participants, during the camp, were introduced to many hands-on experiments to get them better acquainted with the concepts of Chemistry. Visits to Science Centre, SAIF, library and various lab tours were also part of the camp.

SMART Aangawadi installation
SHILLONG: AROH Foundation, in association with HDFC Bank, installed SMART Aangawadi at 12 Mer and Umdiegpoh villages, which were inaugurated by AROH & HDFC Bank officials recently. In a series of many development initiatives taken in the village under CSR initiative of HDFC Bank’s ‘Parivartan’, an appreciation letter by village headmen was also conferred to the team for the newly constructed community toilet, and mass awareness on health and sanitation work. HDFC Bank Manager Vikash Kumar and Senior Manager, AROH Foundation, Surender Kumar inaugurated the units. Local teams from AROH, HDFC Bank and village development committee members were also present at the event.

State-Level Adventure Camp 2020
SHILLONG: The week-long State-Level Adventure Camp 2020 concluded on Sunday at Upper Lumparing in the presence of Benalvic Warjri, Deputy Controller Civil Defence and Home Guards, Jowai, who was the chief guest on the occasion. The camp was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYK), Jowai in collaboration with Arcadian Nature-Sports Guild (ANG). The week-long camp was held with an objective to inculcate the spirit of adventure, discipline, fraternity, cleanliness and conservation of natural resources in the youth. A total of 25 young people, including nine girls from the state, were imparted training by instructors from ANG  in various adventure sports like rock climbing, sport climbing, rappelling, river crossing, jumaring, etc. A basic leadership programme, first-aid training, and a five-hour daytime and a two-hour nighttime trekking were also held.

Lok Adalat in Tura on Feb 8
SHILLONG: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tura will organise the National Lok Adalat at the District Court premises in Tura on February 8. The Lok Adalat will begin at 10 am and notices have been issued to all concerned parties to attend the same for settlement, the DLSA Secretary informed.
